The Ghosts Are Here

Whispers opens, Cock Rock loses its dignity, and Afterneath prepares to celebrate one year underground.

Opening Note

A busy weekend at Ofrenda

It was a busy weekend at Ofrenda Nocturna.

Pop-Up Makina brought speed, noise and complete nonsense to Cock Rock, while the gates opened on Whispers of Ofrenda, our new immersive ghost walk through the ruined abbey and cemetery.

We are not slowing down yet, because Afterneath celebrates one year underground this Saturday with four hours of guest DJs.

Seasonal Greeting

Blessed Mabon

Blessed Mabon to those celebrating. May you find balance, beauty in the fading light, and gratitude for whatever strange little things you have harvested this year.

For one year, Afterneath has provided a dark underground home for alternative music, unusual events and people who prefer their parties below ground. Join Nikki and the Afterneath crew as we celebrate the venue, the music and the community that helped keep it alive. Dress for the underground, however you interpret that.

Whispers of Ofrenda

Eight community-submitted ghost stories unfold along a lighted path through original artwork, atmospheric sound and narrated encounters. Touch each framed image to hear its story, then continue through the ruins to discover what waits at the next stop.

Some stories are eerie, some are strange and at least one involves paranormal crap-tivity.

Weekend Recap

Pop-Up Makina at Cock Rock

Cock Rock got faster, louder and considerably stranger during Saturday's Pop-Up Makina event. For 90 minutes, actually way more than 90 minutes, the sounds of northeast England and Spanish Makina took over the ruins while the rest of us abandoned whatever dignity we had left.

There were bananas of the screamo opera, a dancing T-Rex, suspiciously familiar kids' TV show creatures and enough pink tubby custard to create an environmental hazard. Thank you to everyone who performed, helped and joined us for the chaos. It was exactly the kind of nonsense Cock Rock was built for.

Have a wonderfully strange week

Thank you to everyone who visited Ofrenda, danced at Cock Rock, contributed a story, took off their clothing to dance in foam, took photographs or helped bring Whispers of Ofrenda to life.

This place continues to exist because people are willing to share their creativity, their stories and occasionally their very questionable ideas with us.

Remember: if something follows you home from the ghost walk, it is no longer our responsibility.
